An Inside Look at DLL Errors

Are you troubled with recurring DLL errors and at a loss as to what you should do?

DLL errors are not hard to resolve, and with a little knowledge you can face these nuisances head on.

The aim of this article is to show Windows users how to troubleshoot common DLL errors, such as the missing dao35.dll, wimgapi.dll, and adobelinguistic.dll errors.

Run a malware scan

Malware programs can cause various errors, including DLL errors.

The first step is to ensure that your computer is free from malware, such as viruses, worms, trojans, spyware, adware, and other variants.

To check this, update your protective software and then isolate your computer by disconnecting it from the Internet and from any network share that it might be attached to. Next, restart Windows in Safe Mode and perform a malware scan on your entire computer.

To restart Windows in Safe Mode, do the following:

  1. Close all your applications and click Restart.
  2. Press and hold the F8 key as Windows reloads.
  3. Select the Safe Mode option (using the arrow keys) in the Windows Advanced Boot Option Menu and press Enter.

If no malware threat was found, proceed to the next step.

Download the missing DLL file from the Internet

Note the name of the DLL file mentioned in the error message and perform a search operation on your PC to check  to see if the listed file is present on your computer or not.

If the file is missing, download a copy of the missing DLL file from the Internet and save the file in its default location. If you are unsure about the default location of the file, then save the file in your system folder. Next, perform the following steps to register the DLL file:

  1. Click Start and then click Run.
  2. Type cmd and press Enter.
  3. At command prompt, type the following and press Enter

              regsvr32 <DLLFilename>

  1. Next, at command prompt, type exit and press Enter.

Reinstall the application with which you are getting the DLL error

If the DLL file is present on your computer, then to fix the DLL error uninstall and reinstall the application with which you are getting the DLL error.

Many times DLL errors occur not due to problems in the DLL file itself, but due to missing or corrupt application files. The issue is resolved when you reinstall the application that is reporting the DLL error.

Perform a system restore

Use the built-in System Restore utility to roll-back your computer to a previous date when you were not receiving the error.

If you use Windows 7, perform the following steps to roll-back your system to a previous date:

  1. Click Start, type system restore in the Start Search box and press Enter.
  2. Click Next.
  3. Select a restore point and click Next.
  4. Click Finish.

Clean your registry

Problems in your registry may also cause recurring DLL errors, such as adobelinguistic.dll, dao350.dll, and wimgapi.dll errors. To repair DLL errors that occur due to problems in the registry, clean your registry using an advanced registry repair tool.

Remember, most application errors have a fairly easy solution and DLL errors are no exception. Make use of the steps discussed in this guide to resolve DLL errors.
